Placement within the Story Yamaga, between the highway and the Kikuchi River's harbor, has prospered since the Edo times as a nexus for the distribution of goods. Even now you can see the lines of mud-walled houses, dating back to prosperous ancient times. Rice confectioners, sake breweries, koji dealers, and other historical merchants sit side-by-side in this town.
