Nagomi-machi

Nagomi-machi is a town in the northwest part of Kumamoto Prefecture.
It was formed out of two towns, having been formed in March 1st of 2006 when Mikawa-machi and Kikusui-machi merged.
Located in the central region of Kyushu, it is an area with easy city access as it surrounded by various mid-and-small-sized cities, with the Kyushu Expressway Kikusui IC running through the heart of town. The region is blessed with lush nature such as the Kikuchi River and the mountains alongside it, and numerous historical assets such as the representative Eta-Funayama Ancient Tomb, Tanaka Castle Ruins, and the Buzen Kaido.
As for products of the region, the region is very active in the production of agricultural & livestock products such as rice, vegetables, and fruits; it has also attracted battery and precision instruments companies. The region has achieved growth due to advancements in both agriculture and industry.
One of the town's top tourist spots is the 'Higo Minkamura' which is a collection of several old private residences that have a nostalgic atmosphere about them. Why not take a break, browse through the gallery, and check out the various experiences (such as glass workshops, pottery workshops, bamboo flute workshops, and carpenter workshops)available here?

Hot Springs

Centered around family baths, Mikawa Onsen Village has a wide array of shops that are bustling with personality. Boasting its status as one of the prominent hot springs in Japan with a pH of ~10, it also referred to as the "Super Cleansing Onsen." The silicic acid (a natural moisturizing factor) in the water will sweep away unnecessary keratin and dirt, leaving your skin glossy and smooth. Enjoy becoming beautiful at Mikawa Onsen Village!

Sights(Recommended tourist locations/festivals/events)

An introduction to Nagomi's three Grand Festivals.

[Sengoku Higo-kunishu Matsuri (held every year on the 2nd Sunday of February)]
The "Higo-kunishu Ikki" (Higo People's Revolt) was an event of great historical importance, sparked by a "katanagari" decree (a 'sword hunt' decree in which a new ruler of Japan would confiscate the swords of his enemies.) In order to convey this important event to posterity, a grand battle from that era is reproduced.

[Nagomi-cho Kofunsai (Ancient Tomb Festival) (Every year on the first Saturday/Sunday in August)]
One of Kumamoto's three Grand Summer Festivals. 800 individuals dressed as ancient people wield torches as they parade through the street in lines, progressing magnificently to kofun-odori ('ancient tomb dancing'), dances dedicated to the gods, urayasu-no-mai dancing, and fireworks viewing.

[Yamataro Matsuri IN Nagomi (on the 3rd Sunday in November every year)]
You can enjoy the plentiful food and farm goods of Nagomi at this festival. One of the blessings of this festival is the food you can purchase, including 'ganemeshi' and 'ganeshiru' made with 'yamataro-gane' (Japanese mitten crab). Farm goods and more are also sold at the festival.
