Placement within the Story The Kikuchi Clan stabilized governance during the medieval period and contributed to the development of rice farming. They were the originators of this form of public entertainment which was performed for Prince Kanenaga as a year-beginning celebration. It a precious form of medieval 'matsubayashi' that has been handed down through the ages, and is valuable on a national scale in showing the transitory process of Noh.
